Social Justice

Religion in the thread that binds our community.  We pray together daily and use Catholic Church Teachings on Social Justice as our guide.

Prayer for a new Pentecost: a renewal of love, justice and truth in our hearts:

Wake me up Lord,

so that the evil of racism finds no home within me.

Keep watch over my heart Lord,

and remove from me any barriers to your grace,

that may oppress and offend my brothers and sisters.

Fill my spirit Lord,

so that I may give services of justice and peace.

Clear my mind Lord, and use it for your glory.

And finally, remind us Lord that you said,

"blessed are the peacemakers,

for they shall be called children of God."

Disciples in Service Outreach Programs:

In preparation for Thanksgiving, St. Jane de Chantal students contribute to the Assumption Parish of Washington DC - Food Bank and Outreach Program by providing food items.  Each grade is given specific items to bring in to school. Parents are invited to assist us by delivering the collected food boxes.

At Christmas time, PROJECT SHOEBOX provides each student the opportunity to reach out and help the homeless by filling a shoebox with personal items for either a man,  woman or child. Items suggested are personal care toiletries, socks, gloves, hat and scarf. The shoeboxes are wrapped as Christmas gifts and delivered to SOME (So Others May Eat - Washington DC) for distribution.

The students are involved in filling Easter baskets for the elderly, handicapped shut-ins, and men, women and children who come to the Missionaries of Charity in Washington DC.

St. Jane de Chantal’s “Pennies from Heaven” project involves collecting money to help children in other countries with facial defects or facial deformities receive surgical care and reconstructive surgery.  De Chantal students have collected enough money to bring smiles to over 40 children in over ten years.

Additional Local Community Organizations Students and Families assist annually:

Mary House, Christ Child Society, Christ House, Unite for Sight

St. Jane de Chantal students take part in walks to raise awareness and funds for cancer, heart disease, the homeless, and disaster relief efforts. De Chantal student involvement in projects continues to grow when specific needs arise and we, as a community, can help.
