Overview

COMPOSITION: St. Jane de Chantal is a Catholic, Pre-K-8 coed school with over 350 students.  The Pre-Kindergarten classes are composed of four-year-old students. Grades K-8 each have two classrooms, averaging 20 students per class.  Aides assist the classroom teacher in grades Pre-K to grade - 2.  A full-time nurse is on staff each school day.

SCHOOL HOURS:  8 am -3 pm on full days. The doors open at 7:45 am. Dismissal is at 3:00 pm on full school days and at 12 NOON on early dismissal days.  Our Extended Day Program offers both before-school care starting at 7 am and after-school care ending at 6:00 pm.

ACADEMICS: Twice named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the US Department of Education, De Chantal is accredited by AdvancEd.

Academic Standards set by the Archdiocese of Washington are followed in all grades and subjects.  Students participate in a dynamic curriculum for religion, language arts, history, social studies, mathematics, science, art, STEM Lab, physical education, and music. 7th & 8th grade students are grouped by ability in mathematics. 

The Academic Curriculum is built upon the ADW Standards,  De Chantal's traditional educational approach incorporates daily teacher led educational lessons with independent, pair and group lessons in all grades.  Students learn on a variety of platforms including textbooks, workbooks, chrome books and iPads.

The curriculum for grades  6-8 includes Spanish and additional language arts programs through library for Pre-K through grade 4.  There is a resource program in place for students with specified educational needs.  

Academic Standardized Testing is provided annually.  Students in grades 2-8 participate in Advanced-Ed standarized testing during the school year. 

Academic Success is valued by students and faculty.  Students are encouraged to be curious and achieve their personal best.  The Academic grading scale is established by the Archdiocese of Washington and report cards are issued quarterly.  Annually, 100% of de Chantal students qualify for admission to a Catholic high school. 99% of the students choose to attend a Catholic high school.

FAITH FORMATION: Daily prayer is routine and common throughout our school.  Students and faculty begin each morning and end each afternoon in prayer. 

Mass and Sacraments - All School Masses are held periodically throughout the year to celebrate school milestones and honor Holy Days.   Individual classes also attend Mass bi-weekly. Students are given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of their Advent and Lenten preparations for Christmas and Easter.  During Lent, Stations of the Cross and Live Rosaries are conducted by the students.

Social Justice is part of the Religion Curriculum. In keeping with Christ's call to serve others De Chantal students participate in a variety of social giving programs each year; the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Project ShoeBox for SOME, Operation Smile, a Walk for the Homeless, seasonal collections for Little Sisters of the Poor and many more community outreach efforts are part of student life.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

Fine Arts:  Choir is offered after school and during the school day. After school Paino lessons are offered to students in grades 1-8.  The De Chantal Band is a vibrant program for students in grades 4-8.  

De Chantal Parish CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) sponsors a variety of sports for grades 1-8.

Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops are active throughout the school year.

 

ADMISSIONS: Students of all faith and religious backgrounds are welcome at De Chantal.  Siblings and parishioners receive priority in admittance to the school.  Admissions Criteria   Tuition and Fees

TRANSPORTATION: Carpool and walking are the general means of transportation to/from school as there is no private bus service. Public transportation via Metrobus and Ride-On Rt. 30 is available directly in front of the school.

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM: Hot lunch is offered for an additional cost. The menu consists of different catered lunches each day.
