De Chantal is a Catholic school, and it is our hope that students are better Catholics because they have been here. The Christ Our Life religion text series by Loyola Press is used throughout the school. Many supplementary texts are incorporated into the program. In addition, the children participate in weekly liturgies and para-liturgies:
- preparation for the sacraments is done through the church, family, and school
- the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist take place in second grade
- the Sacrament of Confirmation takes place in eighth grade
Social Justice is part of our Religious Education program. Giving Projects are requirements for each student in de Chantal School.
Language Arts and Mathematics
Instruction is given in small groups within the class. Provision for self-expression is provided through a variety of activities - skits, recordings, creative dramatics, manipulatives, individual projects, and challenging assignments. Audio Visual aids and computers are used to enhance daily classes.
Social Studies and Science
Social Studies is taught using current texts along with newspapers and current events. Speakers are utilized where appropriate. Science is taught with hands-on kits and experiments. A science fair is held in February/March, at which time all classes have displays. The 7th and 8th grades present individual projects for judging by outside judges.
All grades have music, art, physical education, and computers each week. These subjects are an integral part of our daily program providing the students opportunities to excel in non-academic areas. Emphasis is on pupil participation. The students have exposure to different methods, techniques, and media.
