Welcome to the de Chantal SKYBOX!Our Motto at the SKYBOX is: I can, You can, We Can, do Math! |
Welcome to the 2011-2012 SKYBOX BLUE RIBBON Year!
One of our main goals in the classroom and in SKYBOX is to help our students excel in Math Computation. In order to accomplish this it is imperative that students are strong in their Basic Math Facts!
One of the many features and strengths of the SKYBOX Program is that it is a non-graded exciting way of experiencing Math. Included in our goals are:
- building student confidence and success through fun-filled and exciting activities,
- using creative problem solving strategies to encourage students to take educational risks in thinking ourside the "mathematical box".
Students coming to the SKYBOX are involved with many and varied activities.
Some of these activities are:
- Exciting and varied Hands on Games
- Timed activities related to basic grade related Math Facts
- Mental Math Problems
- Enrichment activities
- Computer Programs
- SMART board interactive programs
Students are actively involved either with partners, small groups,or individually, depending on the activities.
We are continually reviewing and updating our program and encourage our students to bring new and challenging activities to our attention as well.
Please remember that we continue to challenge our students to be the best they can be. As we all know this requires establishing excellent study and work habits. We thank you for helping to make this possible through our working together. Each of us is an important piece of the puzzle that when fitted together is St. Jane DeChantal School!
May we ADD an atmosphere of joy to our adventures in Math.
May we SUBTRACT many of the unnecessary Math fears our students carry.
May our children MULTIPLY AND BUILD ON THEIR SUCCESSES. May they DIVIDE into groups and learn to PROBLEM SOLVE.
May we share in our Multiple Intelligences and celebrate our individual Learning Styles.
For the many talents our students bring to us let us all say AMEN!
Sincerely,
Ms. Maguire

You are always able to download the Mathematics FACT SHEETS as they are just a click away! Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division .
How cool is that especially on these hot, hot,HOT Days! P.S.The Dollar Store has inexpensive timers.
It is so IMPORTANT that children drill and practice their facts every night. It would be helpful if you had your children make their own sets of FLASH CARDS. There ARE SO MANY WEB SITES that will have Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division Tables ready for you to download for free. If you find some Math Web Sites that you think might add to the SKYBOX Program send me an E or a note. I'm open to new and challenging Math experiences as well as new ideas.
Make use of the 100 Math Facts Sheets that are used at the beginning of each SKYBOX class. They are returned to your children with notes of suggestions and encouragement. Those students scoring 100% receive a SKYBOX Certificate. Are your children having problems with larger multiplication and division problems? Go back to the FLASH CARDS and have them drill. The Basic Facts are just that BASIC.
Continual drill and practice will ensure continued success when working with Math Problems.
